The Oslo Business for Peace Summit 2016 instilled great confidence that business is indeed willing to step up and take responsibility for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as signalled by the signing of the Businessworthy Pledge by all attendees.

It is now time to turn our attention to the summit of 2017, which will take place in Oslo on the 15th and 16th of May next year. We are excited to say that we already have a line up of inspiring leaders joining us – people that have made their voices heard worldwide.

Next year it will be 30 years since The World Commission on Environment and Development, headed by Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, published the report Our Common Future. In honor of this occasion, The Oslo Business for Peace Summit will explore to what extent we are delivering on the promise of achieving development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs .

Since ‘intergenerational equity’ is a cornerstone of the Brundtland Report, our aim is for the 2017 Summit to serve as a platform for intergenerational dialogue and partnership. Young, passionate voices, as well as established, inspiring business leaders will reflect on the road travelled these last three decades, and challenge each other, on what is needed in order to achieve sustainable development. If it took us 30 years to get to where we are today – what will it take to reach the SDGs in just 14 years from now?

We are excited about this opportunity to take stock of the situation in order to help trigger one thing: massive action.
